I love going to Metrio & Co for breakfast. The warm energy, fast service and large portions are a guaranteed winner to kick off any weekend day.
In the past they didn’t have a lot of vegan options to write about – it was more a case of asking for alterations to dishes on the menu to veganise them.
Metrio’s soy cappuccino and grilled mushrooms on toast (requested sans dairy and pesto) have always rocked my breakfast world.
I had never really spotted any serious vegan lunch options, though. Until now.
Just imagine my delight when I recently spotted these babies in the cabinet!
With a grin I quickly asked the waitress: “Do those patties have any egg or dairy in them?”
I held my breath as she went to check with the chef and then returned with the other three most beautiful words in the English language: “No, they’re vegan.”
The Chickpea, Pumpkin & Coconut Patties were served warm and had a soft, creamy texture and delicate, delicious flavour. Matched with the tangy freshness of a Lentil, Fig and Celery Leaf salad and a Bean, Beetroot and Cranberry salad, the overall result was sublime.
Thank you for lifting the bar, Metrio! I look forward to many more vegan breakfasts with you – and now lunches too!
