One of the coolest things about being vegan would have to be the amazing, seemingly decadent and ridiculous things that you can have for breakfast that are actually so healthy, they will have you singing and dancing your way through the rest of your day   (NOTE: apparently all this frivolity can become annoying to non-vegans, so you might want to make them one too so they can share the buzz and not be tempted to stab you with their steak knives).  🙂

I love sipping on green smoothies before heading to yoga class.  They make me feel amazing and ready to get my yoga on, both physically and mentally.  It has become a little ritual that I really look forward to.

So imagine my distress when I went to the freezer the other morning to extract my usual pre-yoga-smoothie ingredients, only to discover…  there were no frozen berries left!!!  NONE!  ZILCH!  How could this BE?!!  I never run out of frozen berries!  EVER!

In utter denial, I scrounged around in the freezer until my arms turned blue and I almost fainted from the anguish.  Really, it’s a miracle I lived to tell the tale.

In the end, I had to admit defeat.  The frozen berries weren’t coming to the yoga party.

As I sat on the kitchen floor contemplating my next move, it was as though the voices of ancient Yogis were speaking directly to my heart…  In the distance I could hear inspirational music as the voices said: don’t give up!  Necessity is the mother of invention!  You will improvise!

And they were right!  Check this baby out – no berries required!

  • 250ml coconut water
  • 2 tbsp raw cacao nibs
  • 1tbsp agave nectar
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 2 frozen bananas (chopped before freezing)

It was so delicious, I might even choose it over a green smoothie one day!  Mayyyybe…..

Sounds delicious! I’ve been stuck on peanut-butter-banana smoothies – sometimes adding cocoa powder. I’m kinda addicted. lol

I enjoyed reading your post, too. It made me laugh. 😀

Hello hello! 🙂 I used to buy it from health food stores but I’m finding it in more and more shops and markets now. Nudie even make one that you can find in most supermarkets! Manna in Freo have it too, as well as lots of other goodies. nom!
