Allow me to introduce Emaline Delapaix – a Berlin-based, Australian singer-songwriter.
A completely independent artist, Emaline books all of her own shows and has played concerts in Canada, USA, UK, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Slovenia.

Emaline began playing music full-time just 3 years ago after quitting her job in Toronto and moving herself and her big, ginger rescue cat (Reece) to a caravan in rural Eastern Germany. There, she taught herself to play piano, acoustic guitar and baby celtic harp.

Like most songwriters, Emaline writes about love, but also about darker topics like depression, which she suffered from terribly before changing her life and becoming a full-time musician and vegan.

Emaline is booked to play two Australian concerts next month (see dates below), and has generously offered to give away 3 copies of her incredibly beautiful EP: ‘Between Breeding Seasons’.

So let’s get to know this inspiring lady a little better!

Thank you so much for your joining us, Emaline.

How long have you been vegan and what inspired your decision?

I have been vegan since 2010 and vegetarian since 2004. I grew up with a lot of meat and animal products around me but slowly something started to eat away at me and I felt guilty. I remember sitting in a food co-op in New York while on tour and picking up a flyer showing a cow limping through a paddock with a broken leg and I began to cry. I guess I had begun to wake up. Sadly, it took me a few more years to go vegan which I regret now but I became vegetarian pretty fast after that incident.

What’s the best thing about rocking a plant-based lifestyle?

Not hurting animals! And of course feeling more healthy and getting to try lots of new things I wouldn’t have known about if I wasn’t vegan.

Finding vegan food can be tough on the road. What are your favourite tips for plant-based travel?

Always carry emergency supplies with you such as nuts, and fruit, a vegan chocolate bar, crackers, and hummus. Also check out Happy Cow before you leave or just Google ‘vegan’ and where you’re going. It’s getting a lot easier to find vegan food while traveling these days.

How do you practice self-love and care while you’re travelling?

By making sure I have food supplies. I often invest in a new book or new music to listen to. I sleep a lot more actually, when traveling, and try to take walks each morning.

How do you keep fit and healthy while travelling?

I drink as much water as possible, usually 2-3 litres a day, minimise alcohol consumption, get 7-8 hours of sleep, take a daily walk, stretching and a quiet walk each day when I can. Often things are pretty rushed but quiet time just to relax is also really important before and after a concert.

What do your healthiest food days look like?

Breakfast: Fruit smoothie: blood oranges/strawberries/kiwi/ginger/banana with a little walnut oil.
Lunch: Salad with chickpeas, tomatoes, avocado, white radish, dark green lettuce, home grown sprouts, cashews, nutritional yeast, sea salt, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
Dinner: Simple home meal – quinoa, sweet/blue potatoes, mushrooms, spinach, lemon, pepper, oil and a little maple syrup.
Snacks: smoothies, peanut butter with veggies, nuts.

What’s got your toes tingling with excitement right now?

I’m going home to Australia to see my family and friends for the first time in 5 years in March! I will also perform two intimate vegan dinner concerts while there in Adelaide and Melbourne and am so excited about that. A percentage of CD sales will also go towards local animal charities. You can check out the events here: Melbourne & Adelaide.

I’m new to her amazing music,  Emaline’s voice is angelical and her music is full of sentiment.
