WOW, the weather was gorgeous in Perth this weekend! Did you get up to mischief?
My friend and I watched 50/50. Have you seen it? We didn’t read the synopsis and mistakenly assumed that any movie starring Seth Rogen was a comedy. Well, you know what you make when you assume… It was a really good film but we felt so depressed afterwards that we had to eat a heap of Kustom cupcakes and watch Miss Congeniality to get our sparkle back.
It’s not our fault. Hollywood made us do it.
Lunched at Empress Cafe for the first time. We both chose the Char-grilled Veggies and Hummus on Turkish Toast ($7) and shared the Sweet Potato Fries with Tomato Sauce ($5.50). The prices were great but the food was just okay. If I hadn’t eaten home-made pizza the night before I would have tried one of their design-your-own pizzas. I had my eye on one at the next table and it looked pretty awesome. Next time you will be mine, pizza! mwahahahaa…
This meal reminded me of the roast veggies and hummus wrap idea that has been knocking around in my head for a while now. Giddy up.
I went bird-watching! Also known as: my friend stopped our long walk in the sunshine to take a phone call and this cheeky little guy threw nuts or seeds or tree parts down at me until I took his picture. Such a show off. I think we’ll be great friends.
Had breakfast at the Secret Garden Cafe. I’ve bought take-away coffees from this café a few times in the past but I’ve never eaten there because I could never find anything vegan on their menu. Turns out I wasn’t trying hard enough. I ordered the ‘Veggie Breakfast’ ($17) minus eggs and they replaced the eggs with grilled eggplant, capsicum and zucchini and avocado slices. Yummo! It came with 2 slices of toast too, so good thing I was hungry!
Do you remember when all meals were served garnished with a slice of orange and a sprig of parsley? So cute. Apologies for the blurry picture – I think I was really excited!
Aaaaand I got even more excited about my first ever visit to Loving Hut! Perth vegans have been going nuts over the grand opening of this all-vegan café.
This is me getting happy with the Gourmet Pie – soy protein and veggies in a tomato-ish sauce ($5). Clearly I was having a hippie hair day. I do brush it before I go to work, promise.
Afterwards, the staff gave us free samples of their amazing soft-serve ice-cream to try. FREE VEGAN ICE-CREAM! Oh we were loving that hut, alright! There would have been photos if we didn’t inhale the stuff! I couldn’t decide whether I preferred the Chocolate or the Wildberry so I’m just going to have to go back and try them both again. Purely in the name of research, of course. Seriously, SO GOOD.
So come on, what did you get up to? Please tell me you ate as much as I did??

July 23, 2012 at 11:57 pm (12 years ago)I LOVED 50/50, I honestly thought it was one of the best movies I’d ever seen. But I’m biased since it was completely shot in my hometown of Vancouver 🙂
