When planning a recent trip to Sydney to visit friends and rock out at a Roxette concert in my best 80’s sparkles, I knew there was one stop we had to make…
Funky Pies. Eco-funky, vegan deliciousness. When in Perth, I get my fix from PAWS, but what could be better than visiting the Funky Pies HQ in Bondi? Summer sun, Bondi Beach, organic drinks, and vegan pies… oh hellooooo bliss!! 🙂
My favourite is the G’Day Satay (pumpkin, kumera & potato in a spicy satay sauce), but when at HQ, you mix it up a bit, right?
After much deliberation and in the name of research and adventure, we finally chose the Funky Chunky (shiitake chunks in a rich gravy with a touch of creamy mash) and the Spicy Thai Pie (chicken-style chunks with fresh mushrooms and spinach in a mildly spicy Thai sauce), as well as one of the vegan ‘sausage’ rolls. As always, they were all just as sensational as the view of Bondi Beach from Icebergs!
They have a heap of other flavours too, so if you haven’t yet tried one, put your surfboard down for long enough to get one into your belly!!
I made the trip to Sydney for the Roxette concert too! I didn’t make it to Bondi but I did eat a lot of the vegan goodies from Iku Wholefoods. We need to get these stores to Perth!
Oh, how great was the concert and how fab were 1927?! 🙂
I tried the Iku Wholefoods too – in Glebe – and loved it! We definitely need to get these vegan stores to Perth, pronto!!
Oh my – this place looks crazy good!
It is surfy-munchies heaven! 🙂
OMGosh! Gorgeous! ♥
I know, right? 🙂 I’d be there every day if I could!
How fun! My grad school advisor was from Austalia and all of his research group’s computers were named after beaches including Bondi! :
*Australia*.
haha, I love his style! 🙂
I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award.
Check it out!

Much Love!
Nawww, thank you so much, Amanda! 🙂 xx
OH YUM! I want a vegan pie right now! yum yum yum
I love Funky Pies! I’m heartbroken that PAWS is no longer stocking them. Hopefully they’ll find another stockist in Perth, so I can satisfy my cravings! I’ll be heading to Sydney in the next few months, so I’ll have to stop by Funky Pies HQ. 🙂 I’ll also be heading to Naked Cafe in Newtown for a delicious vegan brunch!
Also, I can’t believe I missed Roxette. Doh!
Ohhhh, whaaaaat??? I hadn’t heard that PAWS were no longer stocking them! Devastated!!! 🙁
Manna Wholefoods in Freo make some amazing vegan pies, though. I had the Thai Pumpkin last time and it was heavenly! You’ll definitely have to stop by Funky Pies HQ, though. They taste even better at the source. 😉 I didn’t see Naked Cafe but I loved the brunches at Badde Manors Cafe in Glebe. Have fun!
Hmm.. Maybe if enough customers request that they continue stocking Funky Pies, PAWS may reconsider? One of the women who works there mentioned awhile back that once they sold their remaining stock, that was it. I emailed Funky Pies regarding a possible alternate stockist (I figured that Fresh Provision in Mount Lawley may be interested as they stock a decent selection of vegan foods), so hopefully something may come of it.
I’ll have to see if I can make it to Freo sometime to visit Manna Wholefoods. 🙂
Oh I hope so and I’ll have a word with PAWS next time I’m in there too. I always bought heaps of them. I thought they would have been really popular.
Did you hear that there is a Loving Hut due to open in Vic Park next month and they will be stocking Notzarella? EXCITED!!
I didn’t know that; how exciting! 🙂 Do you know what date they’re opening? I’ll definitely have to go and check it out. Have you tried Notzarella?
Not yet but I’ve heard wonderful things and I’m dying to try it! 🙂 Early July is the word on the street.
I’m dying to try it too! 🙂 I have a terrible obsession with vegan cheese. My boyfriend calls me the cheese monster!
haha, that’s so cute. 🙂
You should also checkout the VegOut Cafe when in Sydney for vegan and vegetarian food. VegOut stock Bondi Pies which are vegan and amazing. Try the Bondi Pie vegan rolls also, you can even buy frozen take home packs.
Oh I’ll be back in Sydney in March and will most definitely check it out, thanks Kevin. 🙂
