As I jostled my way to the counter to peruse the menu and place my order, the wait staff were friendly and attentive.  With enthusiasm they called the Chef in to consult on vegan choices.

My prize was the Med-Veg Burger (minus fetta, aoili & pesto) – thick, grilled slices of eggplant, zucchini and red pepper topped with red onion, tomato sauce and fresh spinach on a gluten-free bun ($12).  I caved at the last minute and ordered the chips too ($3.80).  It seemed crazy not to.

With a stroke of luck and a grin I successfully nabbed a table as two patrons departed. I settled in to enjoy the cafe’s cozy vibe whilst flipping through magazines from the nearby rack.  In no time at all my order arrived fresh, hot and thoroughly delicious and I relished every morsel as I watched groups of friends come and go and a seemingly never-ending stream of visitors arrive at the door.

With gusto I polished off my meal only to glance up and spot a couple who obviously had designs on my table.  I sighed.  As satisfied as I was with such a tasty feast, I didn’t want it to end.

With bittersweet sorrow, I gathered up my belongings and vacated…

These are burgers, my friends, but not as you know them.  V Burgers.  Go forth and enjoy. xx
