That <em>oh-so-heavenly</em> creation &#8211; healthy enough to drink every day &#8211; and delicious enough to elicit a raised eyebrow from your Lovebug who won’t believe you haven’t poured cake batter straight into a glass…</p>
<p>This was just like that time. Because let’s face it, we’d all be drinking cake batter straight from the bowl every day if our skinny jeans would let us.</p>

<h2>Heavenly Smoothie Tips</h2>
<h5>Base Basics:</h5>
<p>• Use organic, unsweetened coconut water instead of plain filtered water to add easy, low- GI sweetness &#8211; so you can use less actual sweetener and have less of an impact on your blood-sugar levels.<br />
• Frozen bananas add icy-cold creaminess. Use very ripe bananas and peel and break them in half before freezing for easy single serve portions (and less work for your blender).<br />
• Pre-soak nuts in a bowl or jar of water in the fridge overnight to aid digestion and make blending easier.</p>
<h5>Sweetening the Deal:</h5>
<p>• Low GI sweeteners provide a slow release of energy, efficiently fuelling you without the nasty highs and lows experienced with most commercial sugars.<br />
• Medjool Dates have a GI of 55, taste like sweet caramel, and boast high levels of fibre, antioxidants, potassium, copper, magnesium, Vitamins A, B6, C and K, niacin, calcium and iron.<br />
• Coconut Sugar has a GI of just 35, tastes like rich toffee, and is a rich source of Vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6, potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron.<br />
• Although these sweet loves are much healthier than sugar, they should still be used sparingly. For super sparkly health, reach for the Green Juice every day and save the Dessert SuperSmoothies (like this one!) for special weekend treats.</p>

<p>Lately I&#8217;ve been mixing up a storm of delicious, alcohol-and-sugar-free elixir recipes for <a target="_blank" href="http://sexysobriety.com.au">Sexy Sobriety</a>, so I thought why not bring some to the VVP Party as well!</p>
<p>The first time I made this drink, my grapefruit was a lovely pink colour inside. This time around, my magical grapefruit was a light-orange colour. The result was a lot sweeter, but both versions were delicious.</p>
<p>My point? Any grapefruit in a storm should do it. The sweetness of fresh basil tones down the grapefruit&#8217;s bitterness and together they produce a sophisticated, flavour sensation.</p>
<p>Best of all? It&#8217;s super healthy, a cinch to make, and will thoroughly impress your guests.</p>

<p>Did you play favourites with chocolate bars when you were little or did you like them all?</p>
<p>I always considered Cherry Ripe bars (and Bounty bars, come to think of it)&nbsp;&#8216;too mature&#8217; for my tastes when I was growing up. &nbsp;Maybe it was a coconut thing? &nbsp;Who knows. &nbsp;Kids are weird.</p>
<p>These days I&#8217;m so mature I make them into smoothies! &nbsp;And call them breakfast!</p>
<p>If you can get your hands on fresh cherries that you can pit and freeze yourself, this little gem will taste all the sweeter. &nbsp;If not, packaged frozen cherries tend to be a little more sour but will work just as well.</p>
<p>Serve in a large sundae glass with two straws and invite your lovebug to share. &nbsp;He won&#8217;t think you&#8217;re weird at all. 😉 </p>

<p>You know, I was never even all that excited by Nutella before I went vegan. &nbsp;Crazy, huh?</p>
<p><strong>Now</strong> I&#8217;m all up in the kitchen flipping&nbsp;<strong>&#8216;<a href="https://vegansparkles.com/2012/08/27/vegan-nutella-banana-parisian-crepes/">Nutella&#8217; &amp; Banana Parisian Crêpes</a></strong>, swirling&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://vegansparkles.com/2013/07/19/raw-vegan-nutella-cream-pies/">Raw &#8216;Nutella&#8217; Cream Pies</a>&nbsp;</strong>and whizzing up this latest creation &#8211; the insanely tasty and healthy&nbsp;<strong>Choc Hazelnut &#8216;Nutella&#8217; Smoothie!</strong></p>
<p>You can blend the hazelnuts up straight from the packet, but the flavour is <strong>so</strong> much richer if you roast them first. &nbsp;We&#8217;re talking liquid-Nutella/Ferrero-Rocher richer. &nbsp;<em>Ohhh</em>&nbsp;now that is ten minutes you will <strong>not</strong> regret, my friend.</p>
<p>If you can find skinned/blanched hazelnuts, you&#8217;ll save yourself the trouble (and mess!) of having to remove the skins yourself. &nbsp;Just pop them straight into the oven for 10 minutes, then remove and set aside to cool. &nbsp;If you can only find hazelnuts with skins intact, just follow the directions below and you&#8217;ll be sipping on this treat in no time.</p>

Aim to remove at least 70% of the skins (which can be quite bitter).
