Hi beautiful!

I’m super excited to be heading to Sydney today to host an incredibly delicious Raw Choc-Making Workshop – before flying to a remote island in a couple of days for some down time.

I’ll be sharing our Sydney adventures via Instagram and Facebook – BUT the holiday islands are totally off the grid. No internet or phone access for 10 days! I’m both excited and anxious. For a blogger to be completely offline… well, I’m sure I will have some insightful posts for you when I get back about the importance of letting go and the benefits of down time. Fingers crossed! ♥

Now if there’s one thing I’ve learnt about travelling as a vegan/health nut  – being stranded between plane delays without anything healthy and delicious to munch on does not end well.  Even if you’re savvy enough to order a special meal on the plane, there’s no guarantee that you will actually end up on the right plane, in the right seat, with the right meal.  Things could get ugly.

I like to take fate into my own hands.  Control your snacks; control your destiny (not really, but it helps).

6 Essential Travel Snacks

1. Coconut Water to keep hydration and energy levels up.

2. Bananas (or any fresh fruit pre-washed and packed so it won’t get squished) – the perfect wholesome snack.

3. Muesli Bars or home-made Trail Mix (or both!).  Sometimes I’ll toast nuts for a DIY trail mix, but usually I’ll just throw handfuls of raw cashews, macadamias, pistachios, hazelnuts, shredded coconut, pepitas, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and goji berries into a bag, and we’re done!

4. Raspberry Roll-Ups.  These sugar-free sweet treats travel well and really take the edge off cravings for refined sugar ickiness when you’re travel-weary.

5. Herbal tea bags.  All you need is a cup of hot water and you’re in business.  I love chamomile and lemongrass & ginger.

6. Spirulina.  Technically not a snack but fab for boosting energy, antioxidant action, and in my case – preventing eczema break-outs.

I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with some exiting ideas and new directions for you that I hope you’re going to love – including the ‘Eating for Energy’ eBook and on-line program you asked for!  Oh and of course, all-new demo videos and recipes!

In the meantime you might want to check out a few of my favourite U.S. soul sisters cooking up insanely delicious food:

Those raspberry roll-ups look amazing! I just got rid of my excalibur dehydrator so I’m kinda sad I won’t be able to make them, but wondering if they could be made in the oven?

Traveling is always the worst–food wise. It seems that anything healthy is way overpriced, & it’s never as good as what you could make at home. I’m like you, I’ve learned to always have a stash of good stuff, otherwise, bad news!

Oh they absolutely can be made in the oven, Janae! 🙂 I don’t have a dehydrator so I just use the oven and they come out a treat. We loved them on the flight today, and besides the length of time you have to wait for them to be ready, they are so incredibly easy to make. Love to hear how you go. x

I travel with my own tea (herbal and chai), organic, vegan bouillon cubes (sometimes), almond butter, apples, bananas, and a snack mix of walnuts, almonds, cashews with dried cherries, shredded coconut, and choco-chips! Packing the snacks is half the fun!

Thanks for the great post and bon voyage!

Great suggestions! After several ‘oops we forgot your vegan meal’ disasters, I always take plenty of snacks on the plane with me now! Hope you have a great time. 🙂

Safe travels! I had amazing vegan cuisine in Nadi Fiji last year. I have been meaning to post them, but only posted about the hotel I’ve stayed on my blog. Go check it out if you can!
